Zim ships out latest skills set in logistics

ISRAELI-BASED GLOBAL containerised shipping and logistics company Zim Integrated Shipping Services is looking forward to a profitable year.

Zim slips into the red

Israel's Zim Israel Navigation has reported a first-quarter net loss of US$12.8 million after a $2.1 million profit in the same period last year.

The company, a subsidiary of the Israel Corp, attributed the loss to the continuing decline of freight rates.

Zim-Hyundai in slot exchange

Zim Israel Navigation Co says it has reached a slot exchange agreement with Hyundai Merchant Marine Co on Hyundai's trans-Pacific services and Zim's East Coast of North America service.

Co-operation will start next month, depending on approval from government authorities.

Ceylon Shipping joins alliance

Ceylon Shipping Corporation will be joining as a third partner in the liner consortium floated by the Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) and Zim Navigation Company of Israel. The consortium has four ships - three from SCI and one from Zim. Zim will bring in another vessel by the end of the year.

Growth in cargo aids Zim Israel Navigation

ZIM Israel Navigation Co has reported net profit of US$23 million for the nine months to September, up from $17.2 million the same period last year.

Revenue from ocean transport and ancillary services aggregated $963.5 million, up 3.1 per cent.

OOCL, Zim enter slot-sharing deal

ORIENT Overseas Container Line (OOCL) and Zim Israel Navigation have entered into a slot-sharing agreement on the Far East Australia trade.

The service will start in the middle of December to serve the ports of Hong Kong, Kaohsiung, Keelung, Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane on a 12-day frequency.

Zim opens China run

ZIM Israel Navigation and Sinotrans will begin their joint container service to the Mediterranean on November 23.

The first west-bound call on the service, with a 10-day frequency, will be made by 1,200 TEU (20-foot equivalent units) on the Zim Osaka from Qingdao.

Zim Israel places US$250m order

ZIM Israel has ordered five container ships of 3,400 TEU (20-foot equivalent units) from HDW shipyards in Germany at a cost of US$250 million.

''We can confirm that we have signed a letter of intent for five container ships with the Israeli company Zim,'' HDW company spokesman Juergen Rohweder said.

Zim Israel doubles net profit

WHILE most shipping companies are feeling the pinch of world economic recession, Zim Israel Navigation has reported a 107.2 per cent increase in its net profit for the nine months ended September 30.

The bottom line improved to US$17.2 million from $8.3 million in the same period the previous year.

Zim offers new route

ZIM Israel Navigation Company, a Haifa-based carrier, has launched its first Indochina service this month.

The new service links the ports of Ho Chi Minh City, Bangkok, Hongkong and Kaohsiung.

Zim's two fully containerised vessels, Zim Bangkok and Zim Saigon, each with a 250 TEU (20 ft equivalent unit) capacity, will call at each port once every 10 days.
