1930s Shanghai archive film makes debut

A 3-minute clip purportedly shot by amateurs and collected and edited by the Shanghai Audiovisual Archive catches a glimpse of Shanghai daily life among what the description written on the box calls ‘capitalists’ living in a ‘longtang’, a traditional urban alley-community, in 1936. The organization released the footage online in an effort to find the exact location of the longtang where the film was recorded as well as the people seen in it. Read the full story here.
