Why Crimea is important to Russia?

UKRAINE, Kiev : Crimea is a rugged strategic peninsula jutting into the Black Sea. It was gifted to Ukraine by a Soviet leader 60 years ago and is now the epicentre of a crisis pitting Russia against the West.
