SCMP.tv visited the remains of what was The Heart Mountain War Relocation Center. The center was one of ten concentration camps used for the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II. After the bombing of Pearl Harbor in December 1941, Japanese Aermicans were evicted from the West Coast Exclusion Zone by executive order from President Franklin Roosevelt.
Riki Shimogaki was 11 years old when him and his family were forced to abandon their home in Bellevue, Washington and sent to an internment camp in California. Shimogaki was one of approximately 120,000 Japanese-Americans shipped away and incarcerated into camps across the country following Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbour in 1941.
