Typhoon Maysak, initially a top-rated category 5 typhoon, weakened slightly as it moved towards the Philippines, hurtling over the Pacific Ocean with winds gusting up to 225 kph (140 mph), the weather bureau said.
Misao Okawa celebrating her 117th birthday just weeks before her death. Believed to be the world's oldest person, Okawa died of old age in a nursing home in the western Japanese city of Osaka. Born in 1898, Okawa married in 1919 and had three children, four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The centenarian reportedly never had a major illness in her life. Now the world's oldest person is believed to be Gertrude Weaver of Arkansas -- who says the key to a long life is treating other people kindly.
