A strong earthquake struck central Italy early Wednesday, at least 10 dead

A magnitude 6.2 earthquake has struck central Italy, with at least 10 people reported dead in 2 towns. The quake hit at 09:36 (HKT), 100km (65 miles) north-east of Rome, at a shallow depth of 10km. The quake caused serious damage to a number of small towns and villages but more heavily populated were not affected.

Thai police say one person has been killed and 30 wounded by a bomb blast near a hotel in southern Thailand's town of Pattani. Two explosions went off on Tuesday night near the Southern View Hotel in the town of Pattani - one in the hotel car park, and another from a truck near the hotel entrance.
