Typhoon forces tanker aground

A TYPHOON forced a South Korean oil tanker to run aground on the country's southern coast.

Fuel leaked from the ship, but its cargo did not spill.

Typhoon Faye forced the 144,000-tonnes Sea Prince, carrying 83,000 tonnes of crude oil, to run aground on the coast of Yochon. An investigation is to be conducted into the incident.

The unlisted Hoyu Tanker is a subsidiary of the LG Group.

The tanker was delivering crude oil to the Honam Oil Refinery, also an unlisted subsidiary of the group.
