The woman bought an iPhone 5 in January last year but found the smartphone had many preloaded apps that could not be uninstalled. She sued Apple's sole mainland distributor in June, urging Apple to redesign its phone so that the preloaded apps could be uninstalled. She also asked the company to apologise publicly through national media outlets. A Futian court rejected the suit, saying the apps did not affect normal use of the phone.

Concerns have been raised in Zhangzhou after a boy aged four or five was seen frequently tied to a lamp post and begging, the news website Fjsen.com reports. Several residents called police and local media to say the boy was being abused by an unidentified couple. It was not known if the couple were the boy's parents, but he did not appear to have been kidnapped, the report said. Police are investigating the case.

The former director of the civil affairs bureau of Putian has been jailed for 12 years for corruption, Fjsen.com reports. The court said the official took more than 2.8 million yuan (HK$3.5 million) in bribes between 2005 and 2013 for selling posts and offering project contracts to developers and businessmen.

The girl's teacher called police on October 28 to report her missing. Her body was later found at a local tomb. The man confessed he was seeking revenge against his former wife by killing her favourite sister.

A deputy mayor of Kaifeng who was also the city's public security chief was taken away on suspicion of corruption, the provincial Communist Party discipline inspection commission said on Thursday, Dahe.cn reports. He is one of eight senior officials in the province detained over graft claims since Tuesday.

Work will soon get under way on a high-speed rail link from Lianyungang to Zhenjiang that is scheduled to be up and running by 2019, Jschina.com.cn reports. The 305km line will cost more than 46 billion yuan and cut travel time between the cities from nine hours to two.

Five people who ran an illegal gambling den targeting teenagers have been arrested in Qingpu district, Eastday.com reports. Since August, several parents had complained to police that the gang had lured young gamblers aged between 16 and 18 into the den, with some incurring debts of up to 200,000 yuan. The teens were told they could reduce their debts and earn bonuses if they brought friends and classmates along.

A bus driver has been blamed for an accident that left six of his passengers dead and 43 injured on Monday, Eastday.com reports. According to an initial investigation, the driver bent down to pick up his mobile phone just before the accident happened. The 55-seat bus went out of control and overturned at about 10am at the intersection of Donghai Avenue and Nengyuan Road. Most passengers were not wearing seat belts, which also contributed to the high number of injuries. The driver, who was slightly injured, was detained.

A woman was jailed for 15 years in Weinan for helping her father blow up a bus in Pucheng county in January in a failed attempt to kill his wife, Hsw.cn reports. The man and wife boarded the bus together, but the wife found a seat away from her husband. The bomb exploded, killing the man and four others, and injuring 24. The wife was not injured. The court heard that the daughter did not call police about the incident, and she even offered to buy the detonators for her father. The report did not say why they wanted to kill the mother.

A senior official with the Fengxiang county agricultural bureau has been jailed for 12 years for swindling 26 local farmers out of more than 1.7 million yuan, Cnwest.com reports. The woman persuaded the farmers they would lock in an 8 per cent profit in a wheat scheme if they paid upfront for the seeds. The county was short of funds, she said, but the province would provide subsidies later.

A 25-year-old woman was jailed for life in Wenzhou and her 24-year-old lover sentenced to death for fatally stabbing her husband and burying his body, Zjol.com.cn reports. The woman had tried to divorce her husband after she met the other man online last year. The two confronted the victim on April 2 and when the husband refused their demands for a divorce, the other man stabbed him.

Three crew from a cargo ship went missing after the vessel hit a fishing trawler on Thursday off Ningbo , the China News Service reports. Twenty-six members of the cargo ship crew were rescued by fishing boats. The report did not say what happened to the trawler.
