Trump wants Apple to build 5G for the US

Apple has never built 5G infrastructure, but US President Donald Trump hopes they’ll do it anyway.
After Trump recently visited an Apple facility in Austin, Texas that will produce new Mac Pro computers, he tweeted that he asked company CEO Tim Cook to get Apple “involved in building 5G.”
“They have it all - Money, Technology, Vision & Cook!” Trump posted on Twitter.

The largest 5G network equipment maker in the world is China’s Huawei, which the US has been trying to convince allies is a security threat. But Apple doesn’t make 5G network equipment, and its latest iPhones aren’t even equipped with 5G.
Huawei founder and CEO Ren Zhengfei has long been an admirer of Apple, though, and his family uses Apple devices. Ren was even photographed recently with an iPad at an airport in China. But his love of Apple doesn’t seem to be helping him in Washington, where politicians are seeking to end subsidies for telecom companies using Huawei or ZTE equipment.
