Selena Gomez is suing several companies in China for using her likeness in a smartphone game without her consent. The iOS game, called Clothes Forever - Styling Game, is free to download on Apple’s App Store. Players can make in-game purchases to unlock different features.
A legal document from Gomez’s lawyers obtained by Business Insider characterizes the game as “bug-riddled” and “rated a measly 3.5 stars out of 5 stars.” It says the American celebrity has never been consulted for or informed of the use of her image in the game. A number of defendants were named, including the game’s publisher, Guangzhou Feidong Software Technology.
The suit also accuses the game for appropriating the likeness of other prominent celebrities. On the iOS App Store, a description of the game reads, “Interact with the most beautiful models and celebrities; the likes of Kardashian, Gigi, Beyonce, Taylor, and more will be dropping by and asking for YOUR fashion advise [sic]!”
