Happy Lunar New Year! It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to our new South China Morning Post website today.  
There is no better time to usher in SCMP’s new online platform. Over the past two years, the Post has gradually transitioned from operating as a local newspaper to a global media company serving a wider international community. 
With our bolstered global readership, we have made it a priority for us to ensure SCMP.com continues to serve you in the best way possible with your evolving preferences and needs, while providing an intuitive and enjoyable experience. 
When we set out more than a year ago to overhaul SCMP.com, we invested a considerable amount of time into studying and understanding how you use the website. We understand most readers discover content through social media, and mobile content consumption records higher traffic than desktop. 
Along the way, our in-house team of data analysts, journalists, product managers, website architects and software engineers stood by three mandatory principles: 

Any changes made to SCMP.com must be simple, purposeful and reader-focused.  
We continue to place the highest importance on our editorial teams’ news judgment while employing technology and AI-powered features to enhance user experience. 
Give readers the content they want and how they want it, while exceeding their expectations with a robust digital platform.

New Editions 
To cater to SCMP’s global audience, we have added two new editions to SCMP.com - a US edition and an Asia edition in addition to the existing Hong Kong edition and International edition. This will curate content on the homepage that is most relevant to audiences in these locations, or anywhere in the world. 
Smarter Content Recommendations
AI will play a central part of content discovery by recommending stories based on readers’ unique interests, geolocation and reading behaviour. This feature aims to enrich and add depth by suggesting compelling content that might interest readers and surface evergreen content that may be relevant. 
Enriched New Content Offerings
We’ve added some new channels throughout the site to meet greater reader demand. Economy offers the latest China and global economy stories. Our Asia coverage has been expanded to include frequent updates from our award-winning This Week In Asia. We have aggregated “explainer” content to make it easier to find in the new Explained section. Our new SCMP Spotlight features our best in-depth content including award-winning stories, amazing infographics, exclusive interviews and new video documentaries. 
More Multimedia Content
We are excited to introduce SCMP Films - a new video documentary initiative offering deep dives into current issues and introducing passionate people who are living extraordinary lives. We have also listened to increasing consumer demand for podcast content, leading us to launch our new Podcast section with a variety of series covering subjects such as China, Asian food and much more. 
Robust Reader-Focused, Mobile-First Design
Providing an agile, dynamic and reliable platform was an essential priority for us when designing a mobile-first website, and readers can still expect simple and intuitive navigation features and a fast-loading new SCMP.com. At the same time, we have overhauled and enhanced our search functions to deliver more robust and relevant results. 
As part of offering these new elements that readers will love, we made the difficult decision to retire Crosswords, Sudoku, Horoscopes, Zodiac and Bridge from the website so that we could focus our resources. Fret not, as they will continue to live on in the print newspaper. 
Our mission is to elevate thought through world-class journalism every day for millions of readers around the world and to lead the global conversation about China. We believe this is an opportune time to refresh the website so we can continue serving you in the years to come anywhere, any time and on any device.
This initial launch includes lots of new features, but there’s still more to come. We will be gradually introducing more functions to the website as well as enhancing our SCMP app before opening it to a wider audience next month. You can sign up now to be among the first invited to try it.
