HONG KONG woman Elke Tsang Kai-mong is to be hanged as scheduled this morning after Singapore authorities rejected her last-ditch appeal for a reprieve.
The request for a stay of execution was lodged by Tsang's Singapore lawyers, apparently on grounds that her father was in ill-health.
Sources close to the family said the father, who is suffering from a kidney problem, had wanted the execution delayed until after the Lunar New Year, so he could see more of his daughter.
The request was denied at about 5 pm yesterday.
It is not known whether Tsang's wish to donate her kidneys to her father was to be followed through.
Tsang, a 29-year-old merchandiser, who was sentenced to death in October last year, was said to be very emotional as she received visitors yesterday.
