Critics to debate C.Y.'s proposed culture bureau
Some of the city's top cultural commentators will meet in Kowloon to discuss what a proposed culture bureau might look like under Leung Chun-ying's administration. The forum will be chaired by May Fung Mei-wah, creative education director at the HKICC Lee Shau Kee School of Creativity. Arts critic Ada Wong Ying-kay (pictured) has been tipped to head the bureau, which will take over heritage conservation.
Asian leaders hold three-way summit talks
The two-day fifth Trilateral Summit Meeting between South Korea, China and Japan starts tomorrow in Beijing. Premier Wen Jiabao , South Korean President Lee Myung-bak and Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda are expected to discuss a wide range of issues including North Korea's nuclear ambitions and economic and other co-operation between the Northeast Asian powers. The trade ministers of the three countries will also hold a trilateral meeting today ahead of the summit, to discuss a possible trilateral free trade zone.
Film archive to focus on kung fu legend
The Hong Kong Film Archive hosts a seminar entitled 'The Kung Fu Saga of Wong Fei-hung', which will include a martial arts performance and an opportunity to meet students of the real-life martial arts practitioner who was made famous on screen by actors Kwan Tak-hing (pictured), Jackie Chan and Jet Li. The archive has recently restored two instalments of The Story of Wong Fei-hung, a four-part series made in 1949 and 1950 starring Kwan in the title role.
