Audiophiles will recognise the distinctive lowered-case 'b' as a symbol of high-fidelity sound from manufacturers Beats Audio. Now HP is hoping to attract the same type of users to its Pavilion series of laptop computers.

The new Pavilion dm4 Beats Edition is a crossover laptop that combines some impressive PC functionality with the world-renowned sound quality from Beats.

Inside the dm4 is a subwoofer and speakers from Beats, which will give you a rounder, fuller spectrum of audio output. If you are wondering what the difference might be, sound is like any other form of digital information. Just as more megapixels will give you more detail in a photo, a superior sound system means you get more detail and range when listening to music or watching a HD movie.

HP has also done an excellent job making sure other components in the dm4 are comparable to the sound quality, equipping it with an Intel i5 chip running at 2.5GHz, a dedicated AMD Radeon HD 7470 graphics card with 1GB of memory, as well as 8GB of DDR3 RAM.

The 14-inch screen makes the dm4 a bit bulky, but the upside is it allows space for a 750GB hard disk drive, so you'll have plenty of room to store your music, plus a 6-cell battery so you can listen to them when you're out and about all day.

While a good set of Beats headphones alone costs more than HK$2,000, the HP Pavilion dm4 will only set you back HK$8,180.
