Sock etiquette

10 dos and don'ts

DO

1 ... buy different socks for different occasions. Choose thicker sports socks for going to the gym or playing sports. Use thinner socks for wearing to school, or for when you have to dress up a bit, such as going to church, seeing relatives or going for a job interview.

2 ... wear dark coloured socks with dark trousers and dark shoes. The rule is to match the socks with the colour of your trousers. A peek of white is definitely a no-no. Just remember that when you sit down, there will be a gap between your trousers and your shoes.

3 ... check that there aren't any holes in your socks before you put them on to go out. You'll feel more than a little embarrassed if you have to unexpectedly take off your shoes at a friend's or relative's home.

4 ... check that you have a matching pair before you put on your socks.

5 ... wear your socks pulled all the way up when you're wearing long trousers. Exposed hairy legs between socks and trousers aren't a pretty sight when you sit down and/or cross your legs. Besides, it gives a better silhouette.
