2006 Col Solare
Columbia Valley
Washington state, US
This is a Bordeaux blend predominantly from cabernet sauvignon and merlot. The remaining 10 per cent is made up of cabernet franc, petit verdot and syrah grapes. The wine is the product of a joint venture between Chateau St Michelle and Antinori, famed for its super Tuscan Solaia. Col Solare has concentrated black fruit flavours, chocolate and a touch of spice on the nose. It is soft and luscious on the palate, with ripe fruit and soft tannins followed by a long, lingering finish.
A high-quality wine, it is still youthful but drinking very well now and has further cellaring potential of a further five years. The price is HK$490 and it is available at ASC Fine Wines.
