2007 Bastianich Calabrone
Colli Orientali
Friuli, Italy
This wine is made from an indigenous varietal blend of 70 per cent refosco, 10 per cent schioppettino, 10 per cent pignolo and 10 per cent merlot. Fifty per cent of the refosco and 100 per cent of the schioppettino grapes are dried in the appassimento style to increase fruit concentration.
The Bastianich Calabrone has deep, dense flavours of raisins, chocolate and black fruit. There is a full body and high-fruit concentration balanced with fine tannins with a very long length on the finish. The wine will go well with rich meats, such as oxtail stew, and semi-sweet chocolate. If you enjoy Amarone from the Veneto, you will probably love this wine. The wine is available at Lupa for HK$780.
