CJ Mixed Vegetable and Pork Dumplings
The packaging of these Korean dumplings says they will be ready in three minutes, about half the time that the other sampled varieties required, but that's simply because they're roughly half the size. These seem to be filled mostly with pork and tofu and are rather firm. The overpowering taste of pepper, however, is slightly off-putting.
HK$20.90, Parknshop, citywide
Wanchai Ferry Cabbage and Pork Dumplings
A home-grown brand bought out by US food giant General Mills, Wanchai Ferry is a firm favourite. These hefty dumplings have a thick, floury wrapper that stands up well to pan-frying. Filled with juicy pork marinated in soy sauce, with bold flavours and only a little cabbage, they are a carnivore's delight. HK$15.80, Wellcome, citywide
Fresh To Go Chinese Chives Iberico Pork Dumplings
The only dumplings that are free of flavour enhancers, these are nonetheless bursting with flavour. The free-range pork is succulent and tender, and the thickness of the wrapper is just right to hold the juices in. If you dislike chives, however, you may want to steer clear of these.
