Why you can trust SCMP

Who started it? Named after the infamous first-world-war exotic dancer-cum-spy, Mata Hari started life in 2009 when Brian Siswojo of Hong Kong hip-hop group 24Herbs and his wife, Annie, hit upon the idea of creating a handbag label. In just a few short years, Mata Hari has caused quite a stir with its unconventional approach to design, enlisting local celebrities, fashionistas and 'it' girls to create limited-edition bags.

Why we love it: Mata Hari is an inventive brand adored by fashion editors, quite literally with its spring-summer 2012 Editors Collection. With the help of some of the most influential fashion editors at some of the most powerful magazines, Mata Hari has created a range of bags that are at the cutting edge of fashion.

What we'd pick: we love the classical Grace Mini clutch (below right; HK$899) created by Grace Lam of Vogue China and the trendy Kanako (above right; HK$1,399), a foldable canvas tote bag designed by Kanako B. Koga of Britain's i-D magazine.

Where can you get it? Mata Hari is available at I.T, 1 Hysan Avenue, Causeway Bay, tel: 2890 7329.
