THE development of cricket in Hong Kong will receive a tremendous boost with plans to set up a trust fund for local cricketers early next year.

Organisers of the trust are targeting former England batsman turned television presenter David Gower to launch the fund in February at a gala evening to which leading members of the Hong Kong public will be invited.

The idea is the brainwave of two long-standing members of the cricketing community - Dai Thomas and Brian Catton.

'We firmly believe in the recent push to develop the game here and we think there is no better way to give back something to Hong Kong cricket than by setting up a Trust Fund,' said Thomas, who turns out for Sunday League side Scorpions.

'It will be the perfect way to help the Hong Kong Cricket Association's push to promote the game among the local community,' added Catton.

Plans are still in the initial stages but Thomas and Catton are both confident that they can make it a success.
