HONG Kong secondary students are often accused of being passive and lacking enthusiasm in classroom activity, but the three outstanding students of the Hong Kong Sze Yap Commercial and Industrial Association Wong Tai Shan Memorial College, put the blame on insufficient extra-curricular activities in school.

The students, who stole the limelight at the school's 16th speech day recently told Young Post that the lack of extra-curricular activities resulted in shyness among students.

'For instance, most of the students in school are very passive because they are too focused on their study.

'Some of them are pretty shy. Even some boys are very shy to voice their views,' said Lam Miu-yan who scored five As in the HKCEE in Chinese Language, English Language, Chinese Literature, Economics and History.

As chairman of a four-House association which functions as the student union, Miu-yan felt that students did not have a proper channel to voice their opinion.
