A journalist once tried to trick People's Liberation Army troops in Hong Kong into accepting a cash bribe - but failed.
This is among anecdotes related by the PLA in an article about the garrison's experiences during its 15 years in Hong Kong.
Another tells how an anti-communist activist was prevented from distributing 'reactionary' leaflets in a PLA camp.
The feature in the PLA Daily, the mainland-based media outlet for the army, said 'a foreigner' attending a garrison open day this April 'deliberately attached a HK$1,000 banknote to his identification document during security checks'.
But the soldier replied: 'Sir, what I need to check is your ID document, not the money. Thank you.'
The man then made it clear that he was in fact a journalist, and wanted to 'test if the soldiers could stand the temptation', the newspaper reported.
On another occasion, according to the article, a woman attempted to spread 'reactionary' ideas among the troops.
