China's first woman in space returned to earth safely after a mission to the Tiangong-1 space station. Mainland media reported that Liu , 34, who is married to a fellow officer, has not yet had a child due to the demands of the nation's space programme. Liu's mother, Zhu Xiyun, said from her home in Henan province: 'Yang's parents-in-law and ourselves are dreaming of having a grandchild, but her work is the most important thing at this stage. Having a child has been made the second priority by the family.'

The former mistress of 'King of Shoes' businessman Patrick Tang Kim-kwan won a victory in the High Court after a judge ruled that she could retain the ownership of properties in Jordan and Sai Kung worth HK$20 million. Tang tried to reclaim the properties after he was embarrassed by her public fling with Francois Huynh, a male model and former Mr Hong Kong. Although the judge ruled Tang could take back two other properties, in Hung Hom and Tai Kok Tsui, Lee told reporters: 'The result is like the division of wealth between a divorcing husband and wife.'

The 34-year-old is likely to become the first Asian-American member of New York's congressional delegation after winning the Democrats' candidacy for a vacancy created by the sudden resignation of a Democratic incumbent. New York's sixth congressional district, which is 40 per cent Asian, will go to the polls in November to choose between Meng and a Republican candidate.
