AN anti-crime campaigner ended up in the dock after lashing out at a hairdresser with a garden rake. Cheng Wai-kuen, 47, a member of the Wong Tai Sin Fight Crime Committee, was convicted of assault occasioning actual bodily harm on Li Wood-ing. The rates collector clobbered Mr Li, 28, at his home in Diamond Hill, near San Po Kong, after a row about payments on July 28. The story came to light after Cheng, who was fined $1,000 and ordered to pay $1,000 compensation, lost her appeal against conviction yesterday. Mr Justice Duffy said it was clear blows had been struck by both parties, but one side must have started the fight. He dismissed the appeal, saying he was satisfied Magistrate Peter White had not committed any 'fatal inaccuracies' in finding Cheng guilty following a trial at San Po Kong court. Cheng had claimed the magistrate did not take into account inconsistencies in the evidence against her.
