Being Ernest Collaboration is now king and hardly a day goes by when an established brand looking for an injection of 'yoof' doesn't hire the latest bright young thing to design a capsule collection or one-off items. And Club Monaco is no exception. The label has engaged Ernest Alexander to create a line of bags and the results are pleasingly original and eye-catching. We're particular fans of the orange holdall (above; HK$3,950) and the outdoorsy brown backpack (left; HK$4,950). Club Monaco is at 16 Queen's Road Central, tel: 2118 2987. Young at heart You would never know it but Italian label Diesel will turn 35 next year. Diesel has been able to hide its dotage with consistently youthful and rebellious collections, as epitomised by the forward-thinking look of the tailored grey jacket (HK$4,600), V-neck T-shirt (HK$1,000) and mildly distressed trousers (all below right; HK$3,300). Diesel's strength has been in denim and this look illustrates the brand's skill with the material, with the funky five-pocket Braddom style slim jeans (HK$2,800), complemented nicely with the navy blazer (HK$6,300) and hat (all below left; HK$800). Diesel is at 20 Queen's Road Central, tel: 2525 0540. Clean lines Fred Perry, the brand adored by mods, rockers, punks and fashionistas alike, must be doing something right. We're guessing it's mainly down to its iconic yet deceptively simple polo shirts. The classic navy polo (above right; HK$1,599) is a reliable mainstay of any wardrobe but if you fancy something with slightly more oomph there's a white version (above left; HK$1,799) with pocket and collar detail. Fred Perry is in Times Square, Causeway Bay, tel: 2506 1270. Saddle up If your idea of Americana is hot dogs and cheerleaders then you perhaps won't connect with brands such as Alden. The venerable New England shoemaker represents another, more refined sense of back-country Americana, with the snuff suede saddle show (left; HK$4,800) and the rugged unlined navy suede Chukka boot (above; HK$5,000). Alden is available at Tassels, The Landmark, Central, tel: 2789 9911.
