Fragrance designer Mindy Yang says the sense of smell is the strongest of all our senses and creating your own pleasant surroundings can help you relax and unwind. Here she offers a few suggestions for those wanting to create ambient scents in their own spaces.

For a foyer, she suggests 'warm and inviting woody florals or ambers'.

In a den, try warm wood tones for cosiness, with perhaps a spice or two.

If there is a home study, office or library, the scent of tea and woods is grounding and invigorating.

In the bathroom, there should be a scent of florals or something oceanic.

And notes of basil, coriander and mint will add a pleasing aroma to any kitchen.
