RICK Santos, one of the first players who should have been affected by the draft system, was playing First Division rugby yesterday for the club of his choice.

Santos, a former Harlequins and Oxford prop forward, was in the thick of the action between Club Dragons and Police at the latter's home ground.

While his presence was felt, it would be taking it too far to say that Dragons won yesterday because of him.

The 6-0 scoreline at the end of a scrappy game was due more to a collective team effort, with fly-half Luke Conrick converting two penalties. No one stood out, although Dragons' full-back Roger Weir caught the eye with his hard running.

The result was a satisfying one for the Dragons who anchor the First Division standings. They have won only two games out of nine, a record which could improve if they can keep the momentum going.

Santos, who approached Football Club after the draft system had been implemented on December 1, was told then that he would not be able to play for the first team.
