THE coach of the Hong Kong Development rugby squad is facing a six-week ban from the game for foul play. Gary Cross, one of three coaches in the Hong Kong Rugby Football Union's national setup, was sent off last Saturday during a First Division game between Police and Club Dragons. Cross was due to come before the disciplinary committee on Tuesday night, but the hearing was called off at the last moment due to the unavailability of committee chairman Richard Turnbull. The 28-year-old Cross, Police's player-coach, has now jeopardised his chances of winning a berth in the national team for this year's Hong Kong Sevens. Players for Hong Kong's Sevens squad will be picked by national coach George Simpkin after this Sunday's Bill Riach Sevens and next Sunday's Foster's National Sevens. Cross is likely to miss both tournaments. Meanwhile, another player facing a lengthy ban is Valley prop Dave Riggs, who was sent off during Monday night's game against the Dragons.
