A SERGEANT who shot dead his superior broke down in tears yesterday as he relived the drama.

  Leung Chung, 50, claimed his gun went off accidentally during a fight with Chief Inspector Leung Chi-lung, 40, at Castle Peak police station.

 The sergeant wept as he told the High Court how he had tried to commit suicide following the shooting.

 He returned to the dock wiping tears from his eyes after Mr Justice Gall adjourned the hearing early.

 The shooting happened on May 2 last year, just hours after Leung received a police commendation.

  Yesterday the sergeant, who denies murder, branded his former superior 'troublesome, sneaky and untrustworthy'.

 Leung said the inspector abused his position by getting staff to run personal errands and did not treat women officers properly.

 The sergeant claimed he had to supervise the decoration of his former boss' home, help with electrical problems and buy packing cases when he moved house.

 Leung also claimed his superior was having an affair with a woman inspector.

 Leung claimed the chief inspector had even tried to get another officer to take the blame for one of this inspector's mistakes.

 The sergeant, who has been in the force for 31 years, said he was moved from CID to uniform branch in January last year after the chief inspector reported him for laziness.

 Leung appealed and made a complaint against his superior alleging improper conduct.

 He claimed the shooting happened after the inspector summoned him to his office to ask him to retract the complaint.

 The sergeant said he had agreed on condition there would be no recriminations against his three sons who are also in the force.

 But when Leung asked him to swear an oath the inspector lost his temper and told him: 'I'm the banker. I can do whatever I want. I can even disarm you.'  Leung then stood up and showed the jury how the pair had fought after the inspector made a grab for his gun.

 He said: 'We had a struggle. His right hand had hold of my left hand and he was holding something and he kept hitting me.

 'Suddenly he let go and I fell back against the wall. There was a bang and a shot was discharged. He stumbled back and then he fell forward on to the floor.

 'It happened so fast I did not see the bleeding. I did not know he was shot. I did not believe it was true. I opened the cylinder of my revolver and found one round had been discharged.'  Leung then barricaded himself in the room with the inspector's body. He said: 'I was frightened. I touched his neck. I didn't feel any pulse. I didn't know what to do. I felt like going to hell.

 'I felt pain in my head and I felt dizzy. I lifted my revolver and cocked it and tried to commit suicide. I then thought of my family and didn't have the courage to do it.'   The hearing continues.
