A KIDNAPPED woman was blindfolded and held in a deserted stone hut by a gang which later demanded $6 million from her husband, a court heard yesterday.
Chan Yuk-lin was tied to a chair but managed to escape from her bonds and raise the alarm when the kidnappers left her in the hut alone.
The District Court heard she climbed a hill and flagged down an ambulance which took her to Tuen Mun Hospital.
Two days later her husband, Shun Wing-chiu, received telephone calls at his office from a man who demanded $6 million, which was later reduced to $600,000.
Chan Yuk-fai, 21, was jailed for two years after he admitted unlawfully holding the victim prisoner.
James Li, defending, said the men were debt collectors and had been trying to recover money owed by the woman's husband.
Judge Jackson told Chan he took into account sentences imposed earlier on other members of the gang.
