SUBSTITUTE striker Eddie Gallagher rescued Instant-Dict from the jaws of defeat with a last-gasp equaliser for a 1-1 draw in their Marlboro First Division match at Mongkok Stadium yesterday. The draw prevented Eastern going two points clear at the top of the table. They now share top spot with Golden on 15 points although Eastern have a game in hand. Eastern were all ready to celebrate their latest win when Gallagher, who came on as a 61st-minute substitute for fellow Scot Graham Harvey, struck a timely blow for his side with a powerful header two minutes into injury time. The 30-year-old former St Mirren forward has been struggling with injury and that, combined with suspension, has restricted him to a handful of appearances. 'I didn't think Gallagher could do that much because of his injury,' said Instant-Dict manager Ben Choi. 'We thought he would be good for maybe 10 minutes or 15 minutes so we were pleasantly surprised by his equaliser. He only had one chance in the entire game and he grabbed it. 'To be honest, we didn't play well but we managed to get a good result. All credit to the team. I think they deserved a draw because they were running and running for 90 minutes.' In-form Eastern striker Dale Tempest scored his seventh goal of the domestic campaign from a goal-mouth scramble in the 30th minute. Defender Chan Chi-keung swung the ball in from the left and Tim O'Shea managed to get a foot to it. Instant-Dict 'keeper Mick Leonard could only block the shot for the incoming Tempest to score from close range. Eastern's forward line was as potent as ever as Instant-Dict were pinned back in defence by some outstanding work from Lee Kin-wo, Ross Greer, Lo Kai-wah and Ricky Cheng. The champions had two opportunities to double their tally - first when Tempest's 34th-minute header forced Leonard to make a diving save and then Lee Kin-wo hit the right post eight minutes later. Another chance fell to Eastern just before the interval when Leonard punched out Tempest's header under pressure. Eastern slowed the pace after the break but still controlled the tempo. Midfielder Chan Chi-kwong's ambitious shot from 20 yards was one of the few noteworthy moments for Instant-Dict. Tempest could have wrapped things up for Eastern in the 72nd minute but saw his shot go right across the face of the goal. And just when Eastern thought they were going to earn three points for a good day's work Instant-Dict struck back in style. Cheung Chi-tak's free kick from outside the area was headed on by Sean Edwards to Gallagher who flicked his header past the outstretched arms of 'keeper Iain Hesford.
