LEADING local sprinter Michael Wright will leave the territory for South Africa next month after failing to find a suitable coaching post in Hong Kong.
Wright, 28, will still be available for Hong Kong in international competitions, but will be based in Johannesburg, from where he will train and complete his course in sports coaching.
The holder of seven national records said he goes to South Africa with the blessing of Hong Kong Sports Institute head swimming coach Chan Yiu-hoi.
'I'm going away to train, but I'm taking along a big suitcase,' said Wright, who made a huge impression in South Africa last year when he set African short course records in the 50 metres freestyle.
'I've got to think about my future and at the moment, there is nothing for me here.
'In South Africa, I will be training, studying and also given the opportunity to make a bit of money through teaching,' added Wright, who has been coaching the Hong Kong Marlins swimming club since 1988.
