AN inmate told a court yesterday he was punched and kicked during the raid on the Whitehead detention centre last April. Nguyen Van Hieu, 31, told Sha Tin Court he was assaulted by uniformed police officers after he climbed down from a rooftop, and again by Correctional Services Department (CSD) officers when he was dragged to the camp's administration building. Yue Ka-fai, 22, and Wong Sze-fai, 23 - who were CSD officers in section seven of the camp - have pleaded not guilty to a joint count of assault causing actual bodily harm on Nguyen and unknown persons. Wong has also denied a charge of common assault on Tong Cong Sau, 30. Nguyen told the court that as CSD officers took him to the centre's office, one had grabbed his hair and left arm. Outside the centre's office, he said, Wong had twisted his right arm and Yue had punched his cheek. Nguyen said other officers had approached and he was punched on his waist and back and in his private parts. He said he was then kicked and told to leave. Nguyen will be cross-examined today by defence counsel Paul Tse Tak-yan before Magistrate Colin Mackintosh.
