WHILE some Hong Kong businesses may have suffered from the uncertainty caused by recent rumours of Deng Xiaoping's impending death, one retailer is reaping the rewards. The Foreign Dimension, in the Peak Galleria, is selling a limited-edition holographic watch commemorating the Chinese patriarch, at $888, a price which is meant to bring good luck over the Lunar New Year. Shop manager Frederick Schvertzman says sales are booming as a result of the recent death rumours, with 500 of the 1997-edition watch sold so far. Mr Schvertzman predicts local shops would be flooded with Deng memorabilia, within days of his death. 'Deng will be just like Mao Zedong, and have a lot of products about him in the streets after his death,' he said. And the shop aims to do its part with plans to bring in more Deng products, including posters and key rings.
