EXTRA ferries from the New Territories to Central should mean a quicker journey to work for thousands of commuters, Hong Kong Ferry said yesterday. A new catamaran went into service from Tuen Mun yesterday morning, doubling the capacity on the route, while extra hoverferries will run from Tsuen Wan and Tsing Yi starting tomorrow. For the first time, people will be able to take the hoverferry to Tsing Yi during the day. Fares remain unchanged. The changes should help relieve the daily traffic congestion on Tuen Mun Road. Hong Kong Ferry said they now offered an extra 866 early morning seats on the catamarans and greatly increased capacity on the Tsuen Wan and Tsing Yi routes. Company spokesman Edward Kwan said Hong Kong Ferry had liaised closely with the Transport Department and the district boards before implementing the changes. But the initiative for the change had come from the passengers, he said. 'In Tuen Mun the passengers requested us to arrange more fast services and the capacity is now sufficient to cope with demand'
