DEUTSCHE Bank has claimed a first for German banks by blazing a trail into Vietnam. The bank says it has become the first German bank to receive a licence to open a branch in Ho Chi Minh City. 'Deutsche Bank will target Vietnamese and European corporate customers, to whom the bank will be offering trade financing and credit services,' the bank said this week in a statement. 'Business with Vietnamese banks is also to be developed,' it said. The bank has been represented in Vietnam since 1992 and has a representative office in Hanoi. 'In addition to providing advisory services, the bank will now also be transacting banking business,' it said. 'Deutsche Bank sees considerable growth potential in Vietnam.' The bank was involved in Vietnam's first international syndicated loan of US$100 million in June last year.
