ABOUT 500 Filipino domestic workers attended two new Sunday centres which opened for the first time and hailed them as a success. No residents complained, which the organisers believe augers well for the possible extension of the scheme.

At the Ho Tung Technical School in Causeway Bay, domestic helpers attended a seminar on running a small business, a course designed to broaden their skills and help them eventually resetle in the Philippines. At the Jockey Club Techinical School in Kowloon Tong, the atmosphere was more light-hearted, featuring a talent and beauty contest.
