The world's leading heat exchanger manufacturer is becoming bigger and greener. T.RAD celebrates T.RAD (Zhongshan)'s 10th year on the mainland with a second factory in Changshu.

"China is a huge market, especially for construction equipment," says president Hiromi Kanoh.

"We see our sales on the mainland doubling in three years from HK$700 million."

With production facilities in Japan, the mainland, the United States, Europe and other parts of Asia, T.RAD is one of the world's leading manufacturers of radiators and heat exchangers for motorcycles, cars, construction equipment and air conditioners. In business for 75 years, T.RAD has the largest global market share in three segments: motorcycles, power shovels and forklifts.

The company has a 60 per cent market share in motorcycles, 40 per cent in power shovels and 35 per cent in forklifts. Its clients include Toyota, Honda, Komatsu, Kobelco, Hitachi, Daikin, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Yamaha and Suzuki.

"Being an independent company allows us to make quick decisions," Kanoh says.

T.RAD plans to set up more research and development centres worldwide, raise the share of overseas sales from 30 to 40 per cent next year, and develop more environmentally-friendly products.

With all factories ISO14001-certified, the company plans to increase the share of green products from 22 to 30 per cent in 2015. These items include heat exchangers for electronic and hybrid vehicles.

The company will focus on exhaust gas recirculation, which reduces a vehicle's nitrogen oxide emissions by redirecting the compound back to the engine for further combustion. T.RAD is also developing a product that uses heat from power generators to produce hot water for household use.

"We'd like to contribute to society by providing high-quality and innovative environment-friendly products," Kanoh says. "We'll bring ideas and products that our customers will enjoy."
