A POLICE constable who accepted a $1,000 lai see payment from a suspect to terminate an investigation was jailed for six months in North Kowloon Court yesterday.

Magistrate Anthony Yuen heard Yan Cheuk-wah, 27, who was attached to Shamshuipo police station, was highly regarded by his superiors.
Counsel Bernard Chung said in mitigation that Yan was under financial stress.
Yan pleaded guilty to accepting an advantage.
Passing sentence, Mr Yuen said there was no reason to commit the crime, and Yan should have known better about the consequences.

Prosecutor David Chan told the court Yan had interviewed Ling Wai-man on November 15 in relation to a criminal intimidation case.
