Illegal fireworks dangerous

THE use of firecrackers by individuals to celebrate the Lunar New Year, has been outlawed by the Government.

Nevertheless, on Chuk Yuen North Estate where I live, I see people using firecrackers. These mini fireworks displays are frequent, especially late in the evening.

I am a traditional Chinese and while firecrackers can enhance the New Year festival atmosphere, if used indiscriminately by individuals, they can put other residents at risk. This Chinese custom of celebration has to curtailed by the Government. The law must be strictly enforced.

Just a gentle reminder: Hong Kong people have already paid a high price for police tolerating illegal parking, for so many years, on the first day of the Lunar New Year.

Do we have to wait for something terrible to happen, by tolerating these firecrackers? FRANK YEUNG Kowloon
