BMI moves downstream to supply growing demand
Discovery Reports

Having survived the Indonesian economic downturn several years ago, Bakrie Metal Industries (BMI) faces many promising opportunities in fast-developing Indonesia.
"There's a lot of demand for BMI services," says president Santoso Ramelan, who joined BMI last year.
BMI is a holding company consisting of five business units. These subsidiaries include the first steel pipe manufacturer in Indonesia, a reputable steel structure fabrication business and an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) project management business.
As a member of Bakrie & Brothers Group, BMI leverages the reputable conglomerate's experience and massive business network. The group has a 70-year track record in a wide range of industries including agriculture, mining, manufacturing, telecommunications, properties, infrastructure and media.
BMI's zero-defect policy has gained the trust of the American Petroleum Institute (API). With the API seal on all its steel pipes, BMI is a trusted partner of industry majors, such as Caltex, Chevron, Unocal, Sumitomo, BHP, Samsung and Pertamina.
BMI's subsidiary in steel structure fabrication has had the experience in producing many long-span steel bridges, offshore platforms for oil and gas production, barges and large equipment for mining and oil industries. The unit also exports large heavy duty harbour gantry cranes to Australia.
BMI's EPC business unit is finalising a coal processing plant involving a 6km overland coal conveyor. The subsidiary is also participating in a fuel farm project.
From the Bakrie Group, projects abound in areas such as infrastructure, toll roads, property, mining, power plants and plantations. The Indonesian government's investments aimed at boosting economic development have also created opportunities in airports, railways, harbours, oil and gas production and transport, and shipbuilding. With this vast market in Indonesia, international investors and BMI can become strategic partners in supporting the country's development.
