ANOTHER former commander of the Sri Lankan Army has been banned from leaving the country, pending investigations into allegations of bribery and corruption against him.
The Permanent Commission on Bribery and Corruption instructed the Commissioner of Immigration and Emigration to impound the passport of former army commander and secretary for defence General Hamilton Wanasinghe.
Last month, General Cecil Waidyaratne, another former army commander, was recalled after serving as Sri Lanka's ambassador to Thailand.
He has been accused of violating government tender procedures when securing communications equipment and food rations for the Army.
The corruption probe comes in the wake of preparations to investigate several irregular arms deals involving top-level officials.
The military has been rocked by allegations of large-scale kickbacks concerning arms deals.
