A FORMER Hong Kong policeman was linked to a massive New York drug smuggling ring, a High Court jury heard yesterday. Trafficker Yuen Ho-yin, 54, described former officer Lai King-man, 48, as an 'elder brother' in the underworld. He said Lai was a close friend of one of the drug syndicate's key operators. The claims were made in a video shown in the trial of Hong Kong businessmen Lo Chak-man, 32, and Tsoi Sau-ngai, 46. They have denied helping convicted trafficker Law Kin-man, 38, retain illegal profits totalling US$8.79 million and HK$7.7 million in December 1989. Yuen described how Hong Kong and American smugglers imported hundreds of kilograms of heroin into the US in the 1980s. The evidence, recorded in a Los Angeles court, continues today before Mr Justice Bewley.
