VOLUNTARY agencies are joining forces to fight for better education for the elderly.
Among the senior citizens in Hong Kong, only 5,400 people have access to formal education courses.
The Government allocated $1.5 million to the sector last year.
However, that was only three per cent of the total $51 million which was budgeted for adult education such as vocational training.
The Hong Kong Association for Continuing Education is organising a joint appeal to the Education Department for an increase in subsidies so that a variety of courses can be provided for people ranging from the illiterate to people with university degrees.
