A SCHOOLGIRL who claims she was gang raped on the steps of the Museum of Art said yesterday she might have kissed and cuddled the men or even agreed to have sex with them while in a drug-induced state.

  The 17-year-old told a High Court jury she might have said or done things she cannot remember because of her condition at the time.

  But she strongly denied a suggestion that her behaviour had 'put innocent boys in the dock'.

  The court heard that the girl passed out after taking a pill, drinking beer, and smoking a cigarette. She said she woke up in hospital and was unable to remember anything about the attack.

  One man has pleaded guilty to raping her. Lam Tsz-wah, 22, a karaoke manager, will give evidence against three men who deny involvement.

  Wong Chuen, 23, a salesman, Tsoi Chi-wah, 19, a hawker, and Raymond Lee Kin-man, 25, a salesman, all pleaded not guilty to rape.

  Robert Buchanan, defending Lee, suggested it was the provocative behaviour of the Form Five student that had led to the arrest of the men.

  'I suggest to you that through your behaviour that night you have put innocent boys in the dock,' he said. The girl replied: 'No.'   Mr Buchanan alleged that the girl had been 'high' and was in a playful mood, looking for fun.

  He suggested she had deliberately gone to the Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront because she knew this was a place where couples met.

  She had been to the hairdresser that day, was wearing make-up, and was dressed to look attractive, Mr Buchanan said.

  But the teenager said she had only had a simple shampoo, had casually put on some clothes, and the only make-up she wore was lipstick.

  Mr Buchanan said: 'You wanted to look nice.'   She replied: 'I wanted to look vigorous.'   The barrister asked: 'You were expecting a vigorous evening?'   The witness said: 'No.'   She told the jury the drug, which she described as a sleeping pill, made her feel tired.

  The girl said she had suddenly become ill and had passed out. A policewoman told her she had been raped.

  She said she was surprised to learn four or five people had seen her playing hide-and-seek and finger-guessing games with the men.

  Mr Buchanan said: 'You don't know if you kissed a boy. You don't know if you hugged a boy. You don't know if you did anything more intimate with a boy. You don't even know if you said to a boy: 'yes, let's have sex'.'    To each question the girl replied: 'I don't know.'   Mr Buchanan said: 'All these things are possible. You simply don't know because of your self-induced state. Is that correct?'   The witness said: 'No.'    Prosecutor David Mackenzie-Ross said it had been suggested the girl might have been 'deeply ashamed' by what she did that night - having sex with Tsoi.

  But she told the court that until she came to court for the trial she did not even know that Tsoi had had sex with her.

  Her female friend, who was with her that night, told the jury she was prevented from seeing the teenager while the attack was taking place.

   She screamed at the men, she said.

  When she finally reached her friend, she saw she was lying on the ground with her handbag by her side.

  The zip of her trousers was undone and her clothes were in an untidy state, the court was told.

  The friend said: 'When I saw her in such a condition, I panicked.'   She said: 'When she saw me, she embraced me, cried, and said she had been molested.'   The girl passed out again, the court heard.

  The trial, before Deputy Judge Burrell, continues today.
