The Hong Kong foil team are in a rebuilding period following the retirement of internationals Ringo Lo Moon-tong, Wong Tsan, Wu Xingyao and Ron Lee Chun-man after the Hiroshima Asian Games last October.

Fong Siu-yan won the first domestic ranking tournament of the year and others making up the top four are Weng Tak-fung, Asian Games fencer Tang Kwong-hau and Lau Kwok-kin.

The top four, however, are unavailable for the training stint and newly-appointed coach Ringo Lo will instead be taking Tsui Man-sum, Wong Ho-yin, Liu Ka-leung and Leung Chi-yeung with him to Ershatau in Guangzhou.

Said Lo: 'I want to take the younger fencers to Ershatau so they can experience what it is like training with full-time athletes like the Chinese.

'Fong and Lau could not go because of studies so I am taking four of the up-and-coming boys who have the potential to lead the Hong Kong foil team in the next year or two.'
