BRITISH Forces runners helped Vengeance overtake the fancied X-Rated in the early stages of the TAG Heuer Four Peaks Race yesterday. Richard Strompf's X-Rated was the first boat to reach the first drop-off zone in this unique race which combines the sailing skill of a 90 nautical mile yacht race with the athletic endurance required for the climb up four of Hong Kong's highest peaks. X-Rated despatched its runners up the 702-metre Ma On Shan at 1.59 pm yesterday, almost three hours after the race started off Shek O, but lost the lead as Vengeance's runners, Cliff Squib and David Brown, powered up and down Ma On Shan. Sky Song, Xiabu Xiabu 5, Bugis, Vengeance and Xanzibar all reached the drop-off zone within about 10 minutes of X-Rated with the first three all managing to overtake the tiring runners from X-Rated on the return leg. Vic Locke's Bugis was one of the first boats back out on the second leg of the race towards Lantau Island. History-making entry Tipsy Too was also well placed with Dr Y.K. Szeto giving his all-Chinese crew a good chance of a top placing.
