Samsung profit up 600 per cent

SOUTH Korea's Samsung Electronics Co yesterday announced that its net profit had surged by 600 per cent to US$1 billion (HK$7.72 billion) in 1994, bolstered by sales of semiconductors. The after-tax profit figure represented 8.4 per cent of 1994's total sales, which soared 41 per cent to reach a record US$14 billion. 'These 1994 figures are the highest of any Korean company,' said a Samsung spokesman.
