THE Hong Kong Rugby Football Union (HKRFU) are happy with the way the Hong Kong Stadium pitch withstood the wear and tear of last week's Dynasty Cup soccer tournament and predict that there will be no problems underfoot at next month's Hong Kong Sevens.

'I'm very pleased with the condition of the pitch,' said Dave Roberts, chief executive officer of the HKRFU yesterday.

Roberts, who was among the 25,000-strong crowd watching last Sunday's Dynasty Cup final between Japan and South Korea, said he was happy with what he saw of the terra firma.

'Considering the number of games played last week, the state of the pitch was very good. I don't foresee any problems at next month's Hong Kong Sevens,' said Roberts.

With the Stadium now closed until the March 25-26 Sevens, Roberts is very confident the pitch will be in pristine condition.

It was because of the Hong Kong Sevens that Wembley International, managers of the Hong Kong Stadium, had denied Dynasty Cup organisers total use of the pitch.

Fearing that the schedule of eight games in a week would be excessive, Wembley had initially said the Stadium could be only used on the opening day and for the final.
