WOMEN'S rights activists took to Hong Kong's streets for the first time yesterday to raise awareness of sexual discrimination before the United Nations World Conference on Women in Beijing.

The Hong Kong Women's Coalition for Beijing '95 wants to highlight the need to improve Hong Kong women's rights at the UN's September conference.
Legislator Christine Loh Kung-wai told the crowd outside the Cultural Centre: 'The women's movement really only took off here in 1993 with awareness of the need for legislation to guarantee equal opportunities and the realisation that women's rights are as important as civil and political rights.'
